GTLA donates masks and sanitizers to market vendors and stall operators in Kihiihi Daily Market and Mizimera Rice Market

Girls To lead Africa (GTLA) a Non governmental Organisation has on Friday donated personal protective materials like washable cloth facemasks, and sanitizers to vendors and stall operators of Kihihi Daily market. Girls to Lead Africa also donated the same items to rice traders and brokers at Meizimera Rice Market to reduce the spread of COVID-19.

Each vendor got a bottle of 65mls hand sanitizer and each market got a jerrycan of sanitizer to refill the bottles whenever they run empty. The sanitizers are 80% alcohol and can kill 90% of germs. The washable cloth masks are breathable with two layers made of PV fabric for outer layer and Knit fabric 100% cotton for inner fabric. They can be washed up to 27 times meaning they can last for a month.

The founder of Girls to Lead Africa Ms Kansiime Honest Fortunate, observed that the group has been cited to be at a great risk of contracting the virus given the nature of their work.

The materials were handed over to the traders’ leadership by the Kanungu District Community Development Officer, Ndizeye Ezra who is a member of the District COVID-19 taskforce, flanked by the District Councilor Kihihi Town Council, Tumwesigye Rodgers on behalf of the Resident District Commissioner.

On behalf of the District COVID-19 taskforce, the DCDO Ndizeye Ezra thanked Kansiime and her Organisation for standing with the people of Kanungu during this critical period of the pandemic.

The beneficiaries who comprised mostly women some of whom sleep within the market thanked Kansiime for her generosity saying that the support was timely and will go a long way to save their lives.
